about

The whale was originally found by a team from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 1989 and as of 2004 has been heard every year. Its unique song, which is close to 52hz in scientific audio terms sounds like a low hum to us humans. Its song is different to that of any other whale which suggests that it is unlike any other whale known to us, so basically its one really, really lonely whale, unlike any other creature on earth, swimming around the pacific ocean, singing its heart out to the depths and we are the first guys who stopped to listen.

The story of 52hz does pull strongly at the heartstrings, but the song, in its pure form, really just resembles a low hum, the idea was to explore it in the musical language to relate to.
